‘Slice of the Mount’ is a vibrant, partial abstraction of life in Mount Lawley, an interpretation shaped by familiarity, movement, and lived experience. Rather than depicting a single viewpoint, the work brings together linear fragments of place, Art Deco and federation architectural elements, the presence of the Swan River, gardens in bloom and jacaranda lined streets, the urban streetscape and café culture. These recognisable elements surface briefly before receding, inviting the viewer to navigate the work intuitively, much like moving through the suburb. It is a quiet celebration of place, not as it appears, but as it is felt.
